  1.                                                                             MagicScan 3.1.1 ReadMe
  2.  
  3. This file contains important information that was not included in the
  4. MagicScan User's Guide file.  It is divided into several sections: System
  5. Requirements, Installation Procedures, Supported Scanners, Limitations,
  6. Note, New Features added in MagicScan 3.1.1 and History for each edition.
  7.  
  8. System Requirements
  9.  * System 7 or later
  10.  * If you use PhotoShop 3.0 or later, set PhotoShop's preferred memory 
  11.    size to 12MB(68K)/24MB(PPC) or more using the file--Get Info command.
  12.  * If you use MagicScan DA, set MagicScan DA's preferred memory size to 
  13.    3MB or more using File--Get Info command.

  15. Installation Procedures
  16. Make sure PhotoShop is installed first, if you have not yet installed it,
  17. before installing MagicScan.
  18.  
  19. Follow the steps below to install MagicScan:
  20.  
  21.  1. Double-click on the MagicScan Installer icon.
  22.  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to install MagicScan.
  23.     Please note that:
  24.     * If you choose Easy Install, the UMAXShare and UMAXChooser won't be 
  25.       installed.
  26.     * When a dialog box prompts you to select the plug-ins folder, select 
  27.       the Plug-ins folder in PhotoShop. The MagicScan plug-in driver 
  28.       should be stored in the folder you select in this dialog box.
  29.  3. After installation, restart your Macintosh.  A new folder containing    
  30.     the MagicScan software is created. To know how to use MagicScan, 
  31.     refer to your MagicScan User's Guide for detailed information.
  32.  
  33.  Note: If you cannot install MagicScan from a CD-ROM, open the MagicScan 
  34.         Disk Folder and select the folders designated MagicScan Disk 1 
  35.         thru MagicScan Disk 9 in that order. These folders represent 
  36.         floppies. Access the MagicScan Disk Folder and copy the contents 
  37.         of each folder onto separate diskettes.
  38.         The contents of each folder, MagicScan Disk 1 thru MagicScan Disk 
  39.         9, contain exactly the right amount of data for one floppy 
  40.         diskette.
  41.  
  42.  Note: If you find the MagicScan plug-in driver is located in the 
  43.         MagicScan 3.1 folder, you need yo drag the MagicScan plug-in 
  44.         driver to PhotoShop's Plug-ins folder.
  45.                       
  46. Supported Scanners
  47.  * Power Look III, Power Look 2000, Mirage II, Mirage IIse, Mirage D-16L,
  48.    PowerLook II, Power Look, Gemini D-16
  49.  * Other scanner models must be controlled using MagicScan 1.0 Retail 
  50.    version (or later), VistaScan 1.0(or later).

  52. Limitations
  53. When using the Multiple Scan or Batch Scan mode, all scans must be from
  54. the same physical scanner (regardless of the number of scanners connected
  55. to the computer).
  56.  
  57. Notes
  58.  1. Remove 'UMAXShare' file from the Extensions folder under System 
  59.     Folder if you have serious problems using a remote scanner through 
  60.     network.
  61.  
  62.  2. For non-network users, remove 'UMAXShare' file from the Extensions 
  63.     folder under System Folder in order to increase MagicScan's 
  64.     performance.
  65.  
  66.  3. If UMAXShare is updated, all Macintosh machines on the same network 
  67.     must be updated as well for remote scanner access. At present 
  68.     Macintosh to PC access is not supported.
  69.  
  70.  4. Before installing OmniPage, make sure you have the Apple Compatible 
  71.     driver installed. Select "Support Apple Compatible Scanner" while 
  72.     installing OmniPage. After installation, choose "Apple Scan" from 
  73.     Chooser.
  74.  
  75.  5. When the Selection Area marquee and the Preview Frame overlap, place 
  76.     the cusor within the Preview Frame, press the Option key and drag so 
  77.     that the whole Preview Frame moves. To change the size and shape of 
  78.     the Preview Frame, press the Option key and drag on an edge or 
  79.     corner to stretch or contract the Preview Frame. Dragging without the 
  80.     Option key pressedwill move the Selection Area marquee if the cursor 
  81.     is within the slection frame or stretch the Selection Area marquee if 
  82.     the cursor is on the marquee border.
